Vaping responsibly is of utmost importance when it comes to being a valued member of the vaping community. Since the inception of vaping products, the fans and the manufacturers of e-liquids and e-cigarettes have tried their best to push vaping as far away from its association with smoking as possible. There are hardly any similarities between vaping and smoking, yet there are numerous people in the United States who simply can’t tell the two apart. This is why it is so important to educate the consumers and propagate positive information about vaping products all over the country. Once consumers get to know what e-liquids and e-cigarettes really are, they will no longer have lingering doubts about their connection with tobacco and conventional cigarettes. Through educational infomercials, word of mouth referrals and vaping events, consumers will begin to see vaping products for what they really are.
One of the biggest drawbacks or stumbling blocks that vapers have had to deal with when muffling the voice of the critics and convincing average consumers about the safety of vaping is the tragic and unfortunate incidents that have involved the use of e-liquids and e-cigarettes by children. In fact, a recent tragedy has served as a shocking reminder of the fact that vapers need to keep their vaping products as far away from the reach of their young ones as possible. On December 9, 2014, a young toddler was brought to the hospital after ingesting the contents of an e-liquid bottle that was stored at home. Although paramedics did their best to revive the child from the clutches of death, the little one was eventually pronounced dead later that day. Medical experts believe that the high concentration of nicotine in the e-liquid is what led to the child’s death.
E-liquid deaths are not common. In fact, this is the first ever accidental e-liquid death that is known to us. However, people within the vaping community want to make sure that it is the last time a bottle of e-liquid harms an innocent little child. The only way to prevent such tragedies is by becoming more responsible and learning how to handle e-liquids in a much safer way. If you are a vaper with children at home, you might want to read the following pieces of advice on safety:
1) Make Sure that the E-Liquid Container is Childproof
The first thing that you have to do when ensuring the safety of your vaping practices at home is childproofing the e-liquid bottles. You can do this on your own if you have the crafting skills required to get the job done. The alternative option is to simply buy e-liquid containers that have childproof capping. In other words, these bottles are made in such a way that it is nearly impossible for little children to open them. The bottle itself can be childproofed or the packaging as a whole can be made childproof. The choice is yours, but we suggest that you go for childproof packaging and keep the bottles away from the sight of young children who may think of them as juice containers. When the products are in use, make sure that your children are kept far away from it. You have to be a diligent parent who knows how to protect his or her children at all times.
2) Store the Vaping Products in a Safe Place
The e-liquids are not the only threat to children. The other vaping products must be kept away as well. You do not want your three year old to be playing around with your e-cigarette. They could easily get injured by mishandling the product. You cannot take that risk. Hence, the safest option is to store your vaping products in a location that is completely unknown to your children. If needed, keep the closet or drawer locked and carry the keys around with you. This probably sounds too elaborate for your liking, but you need to go the extra mile to absolutely make sure that your kids will not be harmed by your vaping products. Furthermore, it may make sense to you to store the vaping products high up on top of a shelf. However, you need to bear in mind that kids have tremendous willpower and that they will eventually find a way to retrieve the products once they are aware of where the products have been placed.
3) Using Nicotine Free E-Liquids
Not all e-liquid products are filled with nicotine. Since an overdose of nicotine is the main concern here, you can shift to zero nicotine e-liquids. By doing this, you are minimizing the health risks of an accidental ingestion. Even if your child finds a way into your e-liquid storage and ingests the product, he or she will probably not be in need of emergency medical attention.
